Dorje Association is a non-political, non-religious, non-profit organization committed to improving the quality of medical care in China's poorest areas by
· supporting the creation of charitable clinics and hospitals,
· training doctors, nurses and midwives, and
· improving healthcare at orphanages.
Begun in 2005 as a volunteer project to open a hospital in far west Sichuan Province, Dorje's has since grown considerably. In 2007, Dorje incorporated in France and established offices in Beijing and Shanghai. Still largely a group of volunteers, the members of Dorje draw inspiration from the words of one of our leaders who said: "Life gave me a chance to help others. I'm just doing what I can to make a difference."

Dorje is partnered with the Sichuan Red Cross on the project “Clinics for a Thousand Villages”. Targeting the poorest areas of Sichuan Province, this project is building and renovating one thousand new rural clinics. Dorje is investing needed construction money, plus providing the doctors at it’s locations with ongoing medical training and other forms of support.
Recruiting doctors to work in rural China is a major challenge. One of Dorje’s solutions is to provide medical training to key local people through its partnership with Acupuncture Without Borders (Acupuncture Sans Frontières). AWB is a non-profit organization focused on training medical personnel in the proper use of acupuncture, a low cost form of treatment particularly well suited for use in impoverished areas.
