The doctors Dorje supports all live in very poor areas and are often the only healthcare providers in their communities. But because of the poverty of the people they serve, these dedicated doctors often provide free or very low cost treatments to their patients. To make sure that these doctors have enough income, Dorje pays a portion or all of the salary for several of its doctors. If these doctors close their clinics, their communities will have no healthcare. That is a situation that we can easily prevent with a very small investment.

Dorje provides the salaries for a doctor and 2 nurses at Baige Hospital in Laima Village near Ganzi. The doctor's salary is RMB 1,300 per month and the nurses each earn RMB 500 per month, for a total of RMB 27,600 per year. Because of Dorje's support, this hospital is able to provide free consultation to its patients.
Beginning in 2009, Dorje will provide salary supplementation for a doctor at a rural clinic in Gelong, in northwest Sichuan Province. That doctor will receive RMB 500 per month (RMB 6,000 per year).
